Dear Quick Key Folks,
On almost every student I receive the 'student ID was not recognized' message. When I check the student's number, it is correct and correctly filled in (e.g., there are no erasures, stray marks, etc.). I get this message on almost every student, and with some students, the app does give me a grade, but then almost immediately the 'student ID was not recognized' message come up and covers the grade information. Please help.
I'm sorry to hear you are having this problem. We can fix it.
When the app says the Student ID is not recognized, it is because the Course being scanned does not contain the student you are scanning. This is a little confusing, and I apologize for that.
These steps will make the problem go away:
(1) make sure ALL students are assigned to at least one Course
(2) make sure when you create a Quiz, you assign the Quiz to the Courses containing the students you plan to scan (you can do this online or in the mobile app)
The app will not let you scan a Quiz without assigning it to at least one Course, but it will let you scan a student who isn't in the Course(s) you assigned to the quiz. In that case it will throw that error message.
Please make sure you have your students and courses set up this way, and the quiz assigned to the proper Course, and all should be well.
Also you should know we are working to make the app less stringent about this. In the coming months, there will be more freedom to scan students who aren't in the Course being scanned. But for now, to avoid seeing that message (and to avoid any other issues with results syncing up to the Web properly), please make sure everything is set up in this way.
